• The Green & Yellow: The green background and yellow diamond originate from Brazil’s imperial history. Green represents the lush forests of the Amazon and was the color of the House of Braganza. The yellow diamond symbolizes the country’s wealth, particularly its abundant gold reserves.

• Blue Globe & White Band: At the center of the flag is a blue sphere with 27 white, five-pointed stars arranged as they appeared in the night sky over Rio de Janeiro on November 15, 1889—the day Brazil declared itself a republic. The white band cutting across the globe bears the national motto, "Ordem e Progresso" (Order and Progress).

• Stars & Constellations: The stars on the flag represent the 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District. Their arrangement forms constellations such as the Southern Cross, a prominent symbol on flags in the Southern Hemisphere.
