The HiveIQ Medium Box is a 9-frame honey super built from the same high-density EPS as the rest of the HiveIQ system. It ships flat-packed and assembles with the included stainless screws and exterior wood glue (not included). The 360-degree plastic protective edge interlocks with boxes above and below, sealing the thermal break and keeping pests out at the joints.
Paint with water-based latex before use to protect the EPS from UV. Avoid oil-based paints.
Frames not included. Fits standard 9-frame medium Langstroth frames.
Feeding recommendation: We recommend the Medium Internal Frame Feeder when using this box for feeding. It sits inside the box without disrupting the thermal seal, which top feeders and entrance feeders can't match on an insulated setup.
The medium box is most beekeepers' first honey super — and in an insulated hive, it's also the first box where you see the real difference. Bees build comb faster and cap honey sooner when they're not fighting temperature swings. The HiveIQ system holds warmth in the brood nest below while the medium fills up above. We've found honey production is meaningfully better in insulated setups, especially in variable spring and fall conditions.
Same as the deep box: glue the joints, drive the included screws, paint with latex, done. No cutting required. Plan on 15–20 minutes per box.
